Economic_abortionism
Economic abortionism is a pejorative, somewhat inflammatory term used by some American liberals and centrists to describe the belief of some conservatives that society should not provide affordable health insurance for all citizens. The term economic abortionism compares the preventable deaths of lower-income people, particularly children, to abortion, a medical procedure that religious conservatives (as well as some liberals) have a tendency to oppose, sometimes vehemently. The essential claim made in using the term is that those who allow preventable death by accepting the current state of the healthcare system are complicit in murder; that failing to cover people's healthcare costs is "aborting" them economically.
